Youth Gardens (Jardines Infantiles)

Part of former mayor Alonso Salazar’s Good Start Initiative, what’s been dubbed by designers as “the Kindergartens of Gardens” are centers that are linked to the existing network of educational facilities in Medellín. They provide comprehensive care in early childhood education, health, nutrition, recreation, and social development.

The extensive openings in the facades are intended to bring the children closer to the gardens and tropical vegetation. Designed for some of the most vulnerable children in the city, these high-quality kindergartens strengthen public structures and the presence of the commons. Integrating pre-school education at a familial level, they employ and train local mothers and turn them into qualified teachers.
